Calm the noise. Change the pattern. Move forward

Your First Session

What to Expect in Your First Session

If you’re feeling a little unsure about booking your first session, that’s completely normal.

Most people I work with have never experienced this kind of coaching before. When something is unfamiliar, it’s natural for the mind to try to fill in the gaps.

This page is simply here to make things clearer so you know exactly what to expect.

The gentle way to begin

Most clients begin with a free exploratory Zoom call.

This is a relaxed video conversation where you can tell me a little about what’s been happening, ask any questions, and get a feel for whether I’m the right person to help.

If you prefer, you’re also very welcome to send me an email first. I can then send you an Introduction to NLP guide, which explains a little more about how the approach works.

Before your first session

  • A clear coaching agreement so everything is transparent
  • Most people will already have read the website, received the Introduction to NLP guide, or had a short exploratory Zoom call
  • The opportunity to ask any questions in advance. That way you arrive knowing what to expect.

What the first session is like

The first session is calm, practical and conversational.

By this point we may already have spoken briefly, so the session simply gives us the space to explore things properly together.

We usually focus on three simple areas.

What’s been happening

We start by understanding what has been going on for you.

Everyone’s situation is different, so this is simply a chance to explain things in your own words. I’ll also check that I’ve understood you properly before we move forward.

What you would like instead

Next we explore how you would prefer things to be.

This helps create a clear direction for the work we do together.

A practical first step

If it feels appropriate, we may explore a simple practical technique during the session.

Many people leave their first session with the feeling that something important has already shifted.

In fact, many people tell me they feel noticeably clearer and more hopeful even after that first session.

After the session

Towards the end of the session we often reflect on a couple of simple questions such as:

  • Out of the many things you learnt today, what stood out to you the most?
  • What small steps might help things continue moving forward from here?

We’ll also agree a gentle focus to keep in mind between sessions so the progress continues naturally.
